Carmel picks up weekend sweep

Carmel had a successful weekend, as the Greyhounds easily won two games at the Eric Clark Activity Center’s Bill Shepherd Court.

On Friday, Nov. 14, the Greyhounds defeated Crispus Attucks 44-30. Carmel recovered from a 14-10 deficit after the first quarter to take a 23-21 halftime lead. Natalie Whelan-Edwards scored eight points in the first half, while Sydney Bonds went 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.

The Hounds extended their lead to 31-27 after three periods, then let the defense take over in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tigers 10-3.

Whelan-Edwards led Carmel with 12 points.

On Saturday, Nov. 15, the Greyhounds beat Jeffersonville 57-45. The first half was close, with the Red Devils leading 12-10 after one quarter and 27-26 at halftime.

Carmel took over in the third period, pouring in 27 points to lead 53-37. Bella Ramsey dominated the quarter with 13 points; she went on to claim leading-scorer honors with 25 points.

Bonds added 11 points, including six in the second quarter.

The Greyhounds are 3-1 and host Zionsville tonight.
