Serendipitous Happy Hour

Recently, after attending a Sunday matinee of Actors’ Theatre of Indiana’s Young Frankenstein, Mrs. K and I headed to our usual après theatre dining spot in Carmel, Woody’s Library Restaurant at 40 E. Main St. We love the casual atmosphere on their deck and the wonderful menu they offer.

Our server Lina brought menus and took our drink order. When she returned, she directed our attention to the Happy Hour menu card on the table. Being a Sunday, I had no expectations of any Happy Hour, but at Woody’s it runs seven days a week from 3 to 5 p.m. It was a good surprise.

The small menu card lists the special pricing on drinks and appetizers. Our wine order – Chardonnay for Mrs. K, Pinot Grigio for me – were each $3 off, and any appetizers we wished to order from the everyday menu were $3.50 off. The card also showed that Sliders were offered at $5 each – a choice of Smashed Burger, Sloppy Joe, BBQ Pulled Pork, or Crispy Chick.

The appetizer menu has a large collection of items – mostly finger foods. Mrs. K decided to go with two Smashed Burger Sliders from the HH card, while I chose the one pound of chicken wings from the appetizer menu.

Mrs. K’s Sliders came dressed with tomato and lettuce, and adding mustard – they were just the way she likes them. Each slider came with a small bowl of kettle chips. The chicken wings – I ordered chile teriyaki flavor – came with celery and blue cheese dressing (I could have had ranch) and was a full plate of 7 large pieces. With the Happy Hour discount, they were $12.05.

Everything was very good and with our usual one extra glass of wine, we were well fed and completely satisfied. The total cost was a touch over $50 with tip. I consider that a very decent price for what we enjoyed there.
