Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County teed up for a day of purpose and generosity during the second annual Al Haimbach Memorial Golf Classic, held Monday, June 9, at the scenic Chatham Hills Country Club in Westfield.
The event successfully raised $83,000 to support the organization’s mission of delivering medically tailored meals to the elderly or those with disabilities, facing food insecurities, or unable to prepare food for themselves, for both short- and long-term needs in Hamilton County.
The day began with registration, breakfast and warm-up time, followed by a 10 a.m. shotgun start. Golfers enjoyed lunch delivered directly on the course, while the afternoon concluded with refreshments, an awards ceremony and the announcement of silent auction results at the clubhouse.
A highlight of the day came when Adam S. Cohen landed a hole-in-one on hole 14, winning a brand-new Mazda CX-50. He is the General Manager of The Tallison Hotel in Carmel, which contributed a generous silent auction package that included a two-night stay at the hotel, breakfast, two bottles of wine, and Indianapolis Indians tickets.
“The Tallison Hotel team was thrilled to donate to Meals on Wheels, and participate in a wonderful event,” Cohen said. “Chatham Hills is an amazing course, and a dream location to hit a hole in one! I’m still on cloud nine after an incredible outing supporting such a great cause.”
Named in memory of beloved former volunteer Al Haimbach, the golf classic continues to honor his legacy of service. Al’s family was in attendance, and his wife Sandy gave a heartfelt address just before the tournament began.
The event drew support from across the county, including remarks from Westfield Mayor Scott Willis and Riverview Health President and CEO David Hyatt. Riverview is a longtime Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County partner. Both gentlemen praised the organization’s vital role in addressing food insecurity and supporting independent living for vulnerable residents.
This year’s sponsors included Riverview Health, Wolfpack Restaurant Group, Q95, Marquis Cleaning Solutions, Becovic Management Group, Taylor Electric, and the Biddle Memorial Foundation. Their support, alongside community donors and silent auction participants, made the event not only successful but very impactful.
“Our mission is fueled by the incredible generosity of this community,” said Beth Gehlhausen, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County. “Whether through playing, sponsoring or donating, every individual helped ensure that vulnerable Hamilton County residents can continue living independently with access to reliable, nourishing meals.”
As Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County celebrates 50 years of service, the Al Haimbach Memorial Golf Classic continues to be a meaningful way to rally support for vulnerable neighbors in need.
