It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of a beloved matriarch, Mary R. Cox, on June 19, 2025. Born in Coal City, Ind., on February 14, 1935, Mary was a beacon of unwavering love and steadfast dedication.

On August 17, 1962, Mary married Donald Cox and they spent 50 years of marriage together before his passing in 2013. Her compassionate soul and thoughtful nature were the bonds that held her family together. Mary’s legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her.

Mary was native of Elwood where she was not just a waitress, but a beloved figure in the local restaurant scene. Her culinary prowess extended beyond her professional sphere into her home, where she was a homemaker at heart. Known for her lively family gatherings and delicious meals, Mary’s home was always filled with laughter, love, and the enticing aroma of her cooking. A fan of the Cincinnati Reds, she also enjoyed the thrill of the game and the excitement of traveling to see them play. Above all, Mary’s world revolved around her family, and her grandchildren were the apple of her eye.

Mary was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church in Elwood. She is survived by her loving family: her daughter, Rita Norris; stepson, Robert Steven (Becky) Cox; grandchildren, Daniel (Mishell) West, Shelly (Kevin) Colbert, Kimberly Templeton, Amanda (Derek) Tuck, Anna-Marie (Mac) Gable, and Britton (Sarah) Cox; her brother, Lonnie (Peggy) Frye; sister, Dianna (Fred) Hollyfield; along with several nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
