Carmel splits at Louisville Trinity

The REPORTER

The Carmel baseball team split a doubleheader at Louisville Trinity last Saturday.

The Greyhounds dropped the first game 3-2. The Shamrocks scored two runs in the first inning and another run in the fifth. Carmel scored both of its runs in the seventh inning: Mark Neels got home when Joseph Cunningham reached on an error, then Jay Stein singled Cunningham home to tie the game. But Trinity got the last two outs to clinch the win.

Stein and Gabe Mathison both had two hits, a double and a single.

The ‘Hounds won the second game 8-0. Carmel started with three runs in the fourth inning, all thanks to Anthony Back. His center field home run also scored Neels and Parker Haney.

The Greyhounds added five runs in the fourth inning. Nate Steele singled in Mathison, then Back’s left field hit brought in Heaney and Steele. Silas Neal then doubled Neels and Back home.

Back totaled five RBIs for the game. Evan Vogt went four innings for the win, striking out eight.

Carmel is 5-5 and hosts Westfield on Monday. The Greyhounds welcome Terre Haute North on Wednesday, then play a Saturday doubleheader at Fort Wayne Carroll.
