Tigers, Royals dominate sectional prelims

The Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern swim teams dominated Thursday’s sectional preliminaries at the Royals’ pool.

Both teams qualified all 27 of their swims to Saturday’s sectional finals. The Tigers and the Royals each advanced 26 to the “A” Final, or championship heat, and one swim to the “B” Final, or consolation heat.

Fishers earned seven top seeds at the meet, with two swimmers picking up two first seeds. Sophomore Alex Koo picked up the first seed in the 50 freestyle (21.30 seconds), then qualified first in the 100 free (48.23).

Senior Luis Sanchez was the top qualifier in the individual medley, in 1 minute, 55.49 seconds, then picked up the first seed in the backstroke, with a time of 51.80 seconds.

Senior Jonathan Hines earned the top seed in the 500 free (4:40.12). The Tigers also got first seeds in the 200 and 400 free relays.

Southeastern opened the meet by getting the top seed in the medley relay. The Royals qualified second in the 200 and 400 free relays and had three individual swims qualify second as well. Senior Jihoon Jung is the second seed in the IM (1:56.07) and butterfly (51.18), while junior Camden Bailey qualified second in the 100 free (48.76).

Hamilton Heights advanced 16 swims to Saturday’s finals, with eight going to the “A” heat and eight reaching the consols. The Huskies qualified third in the medley and 400 free relays. Junior Aiden Clarke has the highest Heights individual seed, sixth in the 500 free (4:57.78).

University swam at the Lawrence North sectional prelims on Thursday and qualified five swims to Saturday’s finals.

The Trailblazers’ top finish came from the medley relay, where Cael Head, George Lynch, Nolan Barger and Gabriel Pryor qualified 10th in 2:07.07.
