Williamson soars to Southern Junior Masters title

A spectacular second round sent Noblesville’s Andrew Williamson to the Southern Junior Masters championship on Monday.

Williamson, an incoming senior at Guerin Catholic, scored a five-under par 67 in his second round to clinch the title at Covered Bridge in Sellersburg. Williamson added his Monday score to a one-under par 71 on Sunday, July 19, giving him a total of 138, six under par, for the tournament.

Williamson made six birdies in the second round, including four during his first five holes. He drained three more birdies during the first round, for a tournament total of nine.

Two other Hamilton County golfers reached the top 10 as part of a four-way tie for sixth place.

Fishers’ Gavin Davis scored 147 for the event, carding 75 for his first round and 72 for his second round. Davis made an eagle on the ninth hole during the first round, along with one birdie, and followed that two second-round birdies.

Vaughn Twilla also finished with 147, scoring one-under par 71 on Sunday and 76 on Monday. Twilla drained three birdies during his first round and one more in the second round.

Westfield made its presence known in the Masters Girls division, with three Shamrocks placing in the top 10.

Laila Abriani scored 151, carding 77 on Sunday and 74 on Monday, to place fifth. She totaled three birdies, two in the first round and one in the second round.

Sophie Raines finished with 155, scoring 77 in the opening round and 78 the next day. Raines made two birdies for the tournament, one in each round.

Farrah Camp totaled 157, scoring 84 in the first round and 73 in the second round. She made three birdies in the second round.
