Naomi Fay McCubbins Sylvester, 94, Noblesville, went peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
Mrs. Sylvester was born on July 12, 1930, in Indianapolis to the late Ernest and Edna McCubbins. She had two older brothers: the late Kirg “Mickey” McCormack and Harold McCubbins. She was married to Robert Sylvester on September 4, 1948, by her great uncle, the Reverend Joseph Shepherd. The Sylvesters lived in Noblesville throughout their married life. They have one son, Mickey Sylvester, who resides with wife, Cassie, in Greenback, Tenn., and a granddaughter, Jennifer Sylvester, Noblesville.
Mrs. Sylvester was a volunteer in the North Elementary School library and active in line dancing at the Noblesville Senior Center, Lawrence VFW, and the Sheridan Community Center. She was also a volunteer to elderly and shut-ins through the Carmel and Noblesville Senior Citizens Centers.
Mrs. Sylvester most enjoyed family time, and in early years she was an avid roller skater with them at the Noblesville Rainbo Roller Rink. In earlier years, she took piano lessons, played throughout her life, and later helped coach her granddaughter, Jenn, on piano. As a proud grandmother, she also attended all her school activities and performances. She loved shopping and collecting designer stuffed bears and Longaberger baskets.
She had a dry sense of humor, an amazing memory, and was a great storyteller. She offered kindness, was generous, and embraced life, fashion, and friends as well as her faith.
Mrs. Sylvester was a lifelong Christian and a member of The Friends Church in Noblesville and later The Seventh Day Adventist Church of Cicero. She attended Bible study for many years.
The Sylvester family wishes to acknowledge the staff at Harbour Manor of Noblesville for their tireless and compassionate care given Naomi throughout her stay.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., with services at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St., Noblesville. Rev. Stanley R. Sutton will officiate. Burial will be at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.
Naomi was a longtime contributor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Donations in her honor can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 (stjude.org).
