Editor’s note: The Sheridan Student Column is brought to readers by Sheridan High School’s Accelerated English 9 class, taught by Ellie Arrowood.

Sheridan women’s soccer is off to a strong start, with two 10-0 wins.

The starting lineup consists of Delaney Bell in goal, Avery Hills as a striker, Emily Berner and Brielle Garner as wings, Sadie Timme and Savanna Kirlin as midfielders, Molly Pottorff and Bailey Whitacre as central defenders, and Lucy Marquis and Jada Treitsch as outside defenders.

This group is great at finding passes and communicating with one another. The team works together as a unit, which is an improvement from the very beginning of the season. At the first few practices, nearly all of the teammates were unfamiliar with each other, so they didn’t play well together. Now, the team is familiar, and friendships have been formed.

The upcoming tournament is the Paul Loggan Invitational. The tournament honors Coach Paul Loggan and raises athletic funds. Friday night, Sheridan will play Plainfield at 5:30 p.m. on North Central’s field 1. Saturday morning, Sheridan will be playing against Noblesville at 9 a.m., also on North Central’s field 1.

Sheridan will need to keep possession of the ball, and the defensive line needs to communicate well. We will also need to continue to train hard and stay positive. These things will help our team to be better because these schools are much bigger than us, and we just need to use these games as a learning experience.

My jersey number is 18 because I took my sister’s number. So far, the team has been very kind to me, which I was not fully expecting since I am a freshman. Personally, I have already learned so much from Coach Prange. I know that with his support and my dedication, I can improve my soccer skills.

I am excited to play against Noblesville and Plainfield this weekend for the experience. I believe that people need to learn from losses, and I think my team could really use this tournament to learn some things we could use in the future. I hope to watch the players and their placement so I can get an idea of where I need to be in each position. I also hope to learn how each of my teammates plays, for example, where I would need to pass the ball for them to catch it, or which foot they prefer to receive the ball with.
