Mona Jeanne Walker, 89, Westfield, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Grand Brook Memory Care in Fishers. She was born on January 3, 1935, in Frankfort, Ind.
Mona graduated from Kirklin High School in 1952 and married Dorsal Walker on August 3, 1952. In 1971, she graduated from Indiana University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education, then taught for two years at Kirklin Elementary and 27 years at Westfield Elementary before retiring. She was beloved by hundreds of students and their parents. She changed the world one child at a time.
Mona was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Westfield, the Westfield Women’s Club, and the Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed reading, studying, and going to Pacers games. Mona traveled to all 50 states and to Europe. Most of all, Mona loved spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Sharon) Walker, Teresa (Dave) Stroop, and Beth (Kevin) Wedmore; grandchildren, Chris Stroop, Betsy Walker (Ben) James, Holly (Joshua) Stroop McDaniel, Grant (Brittany) Walker, Logan (Taylor) Wedmore, Brian Wedmore, Jennie Rubio, and Laurie Wedmore; and her great-grandchildren, Kylee, Brooklyn, and Anna McDaniel, Jaxon, Jaymin, Jordan, and Joel Walker, Reagan, Raleigh, and Lucy James, Aiden and Nathan Wedmore, Corey Acosta and Faith Thomas-Gayles.
Mona was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dorsal Walker; her parents, Max and Wilma (Green) Harding; and grandchildren, Matthew Dorsal Wedmore and Marie Nicole Walker.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, with services at noon, on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, Noblesville. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kirklin.
