GOP Chair issues remarks on death of Dr. Meredith Lee Carter of Carmel

Editor’s note: Hamilton County Republican Party Chairman Mario Massillamany released the following statement Wednesday morning regarding the death of Dr. Meredith Lee Carter of Carmel.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of a remarkable individual, Dr. Meredith Lee Carter of Carmel, Indiana, on September 5, 2023. Dr. Carter was not only a distinguished member of our community but also a beloved figure in our party for over 30 years.

Dr. Carter’s life story, from his humble beginnings on a small farm in Cutler, Indiana, to his exceptional contributions in education and public service, is a testament to his dedication and passion. His impact on Ivy Tech Community College, the Hamilton County Council and the countless lives he touched through his work and community involvement will be remembered for generations to come.

In light of this loss, we extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Carter’s family, especially his loving wife of 60 years, Nellie Elizabeth Carter (Karnes). Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

Visitation to pay our respects will be held on Saturday, September 23rd, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church (1605 E 106th St, Indianapolis, IN 46280). Following the visitation, a celebration of Dr. Carter’s life will commence at 3:00 PM at the same location.

Let us remember Dr. Carter for his unwavering commitment to our community and his contributions to our party. He will be greatly missed.
