‘Tis the season to get outdoors and enjoy live music.

Throughout the summer, people love flocking to parks, breweries, and pop-up stages to mix songs with sunshine. But as we get older and face mobility issues, this beloved summertime activity gets harder to enjoy.

That’s why Woodland Terrace, a senior living community in Carmel, launched an outdoor summer concert series to connect residents and their families to the sound of music.

The most recent concert was Wednesday, July 19. The Woodland Terrace team served dinner at 4 p.m., just before the 4:30 concert featuring Celtic fiddler Emily Ann Thompson.

“Her performance was part of our summer concert series,” Woodland Terrace Life Engagement Manager Debra Matthews told The Reporter. “We kicked off the concert series on Memorial Day weekend and it usually runs through the fall months or the early part of October.”

According to Matthews, residents were dancing and doing a little jig during the upbeat numbers. Thompson also played some more serene songs accompanied by her husband on guitar.

“We know that music is a really big part of everybody’s life,” Matthews said. “It’s a way that everybody can relate to each other: through music. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from. It’s one of the things that makes most people happy. So it’s a way of us bringing live entertainment in a casual outdoor summer setting to our residents who live here in the community. As they age, it’s harder for them to get out and around and go to outings, so we offer this type of entertainment here in our community.”
