Westfield’s boys went 2-0 this past weekend.
The Shamrocks started with a Friday, Jan. 30 Hoosier Crossroads Conference victory over Avon at CSI Gymnasium. It was Westfield’s first HCC win of the season.
The Rocks blasted out to a 20-9 lead after one quarter, with Drew Haffner scoring nine points. Westfield withheld a strong charge from the Orioles in the second period, with Avon cutting the Shamrocks’ lead to 37-30 by halftime.
The second half was similar to the first. Westfield outscored the Orioles 15-8 in the third quarter; Luke Vandegriff scored eight of the Shamrocks’ points. Westfield kept comfortably ahead of Avon in the fourth; Haffner scored seven points in that quarter.
Haffner finished with 26 points, scoring in each period. So did Vandegriff, who totaled 16 points.
The Rocks traveled to Mooresville on Saturday, Jan. 31 and came home with a 56-38 victory.
Westfield led 16-10 after the first quarter, including 11 points from Haffner. The Pioneers got within 29-27 by halftime, but the Shamrocks took control in the third period, outscoring Mooresville 16-5. Haffner nailed three 3s in that quarter. An 11-point fourth quarter sealed the win.
Haffner threw in five triples on his way to 23 points. Brock Detamore scored 14, including eight in the second period. Wyatt Freehauf had 10 points.
Westfield is 9-6 and plays an HCC game Thursday at Fishers.
