Westfield pulls out all stops for traditional tree lighting festival

Westfield in Lights presented by Downtown Westfield Association (DWA) will once again take place downtown with the traditional event format. Westfield Welcome will host the event from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, which includes many outdoor activities, food vendors and retail merchants, pictures with Santa and Gingerbread House Competition.

“We are thrilled to be welcoming back our Westfield in Lights event with the tree lighting ceremony,” Mayor Andy Cook said. “Many families have grown to make this event an annual tradition.”

Pictures with Santa will operate on a timed reservation system. Participants will need to reserve their time on westfieldwelcome.com and are then able to purchase their photos upon arrival for $5 per photo.

For those unable to attend the full event on Saturday, Pictures with Santa will also be available from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3. Both sessions will be located inside Christ United Methodist Church, 318 N. Union St. Attendees will have the chance to vote for their favorite gingerbread house hosted by the Girl Scouts of JoSheWe during the event.

A number of activities will take place in the parking lot at Westfield City Hall, 130 Penn St., including free carnival games, caricature artists, food vendors, retail merchants, live reindeer and llamas and Frosty the Snowman.

The Westfield Playhouse, 220 N. Union St., joins the celebration with “Santa’s Workshop.” a craft–making area, and the Playhouse porch will come alive with performances from several Playhouse members.

Westfield Friends Church will host a live nativity scene from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hadley Park, on the corner of State Road 32 and Union Street.

The event culminates with the traditional Tree Lighting Celebration beginning at 6:55 p.m. on the main stage. Mayor Cook will officially light the tree at 7 p.m., which signifies the kickoff to the holiday season in Westfield.
