Club performs monthly trash clean up along Union Street

Now that warmer weather is finally here, the Westfield Lions Club has started up its long-running monthly “Union Street Ecology Tours.”

These tours are actually trash clean-up projects started over 15 years ago by former Lion Alyn Bernell, who wanted the Lions Club to get involved in keeping downtown Westfield trash-free.  He gave the project the tongue-in-cheek name of “ecology tour.”

On Saturday, May 20 the Lions conducted their first Ecology Tour along South Union Street between 161st Street and the U.S. 31 overpass.  Besides helping keep South Union Street trash-free, the Lions got some fresh air, exercise, and donuts.

The Westfield Lions Club invites men and women interested in learning more about the Club and how to become a member to visit WestfieldLions.org. They can also attend any of the Club’s meetings at the Lions’ clubhouse located at 1031 E. 169th Street. The meetings are the first and third Thursdays of each month and start at 7 p.m.
