Submitted by City of Westfield

The Westfield Communications Department has received multiple national and international recognitions for excellence in government communications, digital engagement, and public transparency.

The department recently earned two Award of Distinction honors in the 32nd annual Communicator Awards, an international competition recognizing excellence in marketing, communications, and creative work. The awards were presented by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts.

The city also received a third-place Blue Pencil Award from the National Association of Government Communicators (NAGC), while Communications Director Kayla Arnold was recognized as a finalist for the organization’s 2026 Communicator of the Year award.

“These recognitions reflect the City’s commitment to transparent, accessible and innovative communication with our residents, businesses and visitors,” Mayor Scott Willis said. “Our communications team continues to elevate how local government connects with the community while ensuring residents have timely and accurate information about their city.”

Discover Westfield website earns international recognition

The city’s Discover Westfield website received an Award of Distinction in the Travel/Tourism category through The Communicator Awards.

Launched in 2025, the Discover Westfield website was developed in-house by the city’s communications team to serve both residents and visitors. The platform highlights local amenities, restaurants, events, parks, and attractions while also supporting the millions of visitors who travel to Westfield annually for activities and tournaments at Droplight Grand Park Sports Campus.

The Communicator Awards is one of the largest and most competitive awards programs in the communications industry, receiving thousands of entries annually from organizations across the United States and around the world.

Westfield Economic Development website recognized for excellence

The city also earned an Award of Distinction in the Government category for the Westfield Economic Development website.

Launched in 2025, the website was developed through a partnership between the city’s economic development team and Golden Shovel Agency, a nationally recognized economic development marketing firm specializing in business attraction and community growth strategies.

The website was designed to support business attraction, showcase development opportunities, and position Westfield competitively in the national economic development landscape.

Advancing Westfield newsletter receives Blue Pencil Award

The city’s Advancing Westfield quarterly newsletter earned third place in the Publication – Newsletter category through the NAGC Blue Pencil Awards program, which recognizes outstanding government communication products and the professionals who create them.

Created as part of Mayor Willis’s commitment to transparency and accountability, Advancing Westfield is mailed quarterly to every household and business in the city.

The publication was developed to provide residents with clear, accurate, and accessible information about city operations, infrastructure investments, public initiatives, and community growth.

Communications Director recognized nationally

During the NAGC annual conference, Communications Director Kayla Arnold was recognized as a finalist for the 2026 Communicator of the Year award.

The national recognition honors professional excellence in government communications while highlighting leaders who inspire and advance best practices within the profession.

“These recognitions are especially meaningful because they reflect the dedication and creativity of a small but incredibly talented team,” Arnold said. “As Westfield continues to grow, strong communication becomes even more important. Our goal is always to ensure residents feel informed, connected, and confident in the work happening across the city.”

The Westfield Communications Department oversees strategic communications, media relations, social media, website management, resident engagement initiatives, crisis communications, and public information efforts for the city.
