The City of Westfield and Legacy Sports Group has announced the premiere of the documentary “We Field Champions: A Decade of Grand Park.” The film offers a compelling journey through the evolution of the Grand Park Sports Campus over the last 10 years, showcasing the people and stories that have shaped its success.
Through a captivating blend of interviews, archival footage, and behind-the-scenes glimpses, “We Field Champions” provides an intimate look at the visionaries, athletes, and community members who have played pivotal roles in transforming Grand Park into a premier sports destination.
Director Cameron Sprinkle, the creative force behind the documentary, brought the months-long project to fruition.
“Grand Park is known for sports, but the Grand Park story is really about people,” Sprinkle said. “People who dreamed, doubted, preserved, and now have powerful human experiences in a wonderful place. It’s a great story, and I’m excited for people to see it.”
The film features exclusive interviews with key figures instrumental in Grand Park’s success, offering insights into this state-of-the-art sports campus’s challenges, triumphs, and enduring impact. Viewers can expect a rich tapestry of narratives highlighting the intersection of sports, community, and ambition.
“As someone who has been part of Grand Park from its inception, it’s inspiring to see how far we’ve come,” Westfield Mayor Andy Cook said. “This documentary celebrates the passion and hard work that have turned Grand Park into a beacon for sports excellence while creating a vibrant sports tourism industry for our city.”
“We Field Champions” also delves into the initial opposition and skepticism about building the 400-acre park that hosted 3.5 million visits in 2022, along with the unique stories of athletes and community members whose lives have been touched by Grand Park. Their personal experiences add depth to the narrative, showcasing the profound impact the sports campus has had on both individuals and the Westfield community.
Legacy Sports Group CEO William Knox is one of the forces behind the project.
“Grand Park is more than a sports facility; it’s a community that fosters growth, camaraderie, and a love for sports,” Knox said. “I’m thrilled to be part of a project that captures the essence of what makes Grand Park special.”
The documentary premiered in a special screening on Nov. 28 at the Grand Park Events Center.
