Girls basketball: Royals grind Millers for Hoosier Crossroads Conference win

The Hamilton Southeastern girls basketball team held off a comeback from visiting Noblesville Wednesday, with the Class 4A No. 4 and IBCA No. 4 Royals getting a Hoosier Crossroads Conference victory, 71-69.

Southeastern jumped out to a 23-15 lead after one quarter. Maya Makalusky dominated the period with 12 points, including two 3-pointers. Antonette Green added two triples. Freshman C.C. Quigley kept the IBCA No. 14 Millers in it with seven points.

The Royals led 37-27 at halftime, with Makalusky scoring another eight points, making two more 3s. Noblesville’s Ava Shoemaker hit a 3, which was a sign of things to come.

Shoemaker got hot in the third quarter, nailing four 3s and helping the Millers to come back to tie the game at one point 37-37. The Royals surged ahead and led 55-49 after three periods, Stidham had eight points in the quarter.

Noblesville added 20 points in the fourth period, including nine from Reagan Wilson and eight from Meredith Tippner, but Southeastern was able to hang on for the win. Three different players (Makalusky, Kennedy Holman and Stidham) each scored five for HSE in the fourth.

Makalusky finished with 30 points, totaling six triples. She also collected six rebounds, with Kenley Johnson grabbing five. Holman earned a double-double with 11 assists and 10 points. Stidham scored 13 points.

Tippner scored 25 points, followed by Shoemaker and C.C. Quigley with 17 each. Wilson added 10 points. Shoemaker threw in five 3s. Wilson had five rebounds and five assists, while Kate Rollins dished out four assists.

The Royals are 3-0 in HCC play and 7-1 overall. Southeastern’s next game is Tuesday at Pendleton Heights. Noblesville is 2-1 in the conference and 4-3 overall. The Millers host Fort Wayne Northrop Saturday afternoon.
