Now that it feels like winter, you can plan to warm up next weekend with the first of three cozy fireplace concerts at Sheridan Public Library.

The Winter Concert Series is in its second year, this time presented by The Farmers Bank and will take place at the library, 103 W. 1st St., Sheridan, on Jan 20, Feb. 17, and March 16. Tickets are only $5, which you can buy in advance at the library or at the door on the day of each event.

This series is appropriate for all ages. Seating is limited and all proceeds go to Friends of the Sheridan Public Library to directly support library programs.

“We’re charging the $5 just to offset cost a little bit,” Sheridan Public Library Programming Director Wynn Zetterberg said. “We have the Farmers Bank as our presenting sponsor, but these are a little bit different than some of the other concerts we’ll do.”

The library presented two winter concerts in 2023, and they were popular enough to expand that to three this year. After the winter series ends in March, Zetterberg told The Reporter there will be several spring and summer monthly concerts as well.

“Community lies at the heart of everything we do, so supporting local initiatives that enrich our community aligns with our commitment to fostering a vibrant and connected neighborhood,” The Farmers Bank Sheridan Branch Manager Andy Porterfield told The Reporter. “Music has the power to inspire, uplift, and bring people together. We believe that by sponsoring this concert series, we contribute to our community’s overall well-being and enjoyment.”

Porterfield said The Farmers Bank was interested not only because these events help the community, but also because the artists are all local.

“The Sheridan Public Library has long been a hub for learning, and we are excited to be a part of an event that showcases local artists’ incredible talent and provides a platform for our residents to come together, celebrate, and create lasting memories,” Porterfield said.

The first concert will feature Breanna Faith, who will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20.

Faith lives with epilepsy and in her non-music professional life she helps other who live with it too. Faith works as a neurodiagnostic technologist at IU Health in Bloomington, Ind., and volunteers with the Epilepsy Foundations of Indiana and of America.

“She helps raise awareness for that,” Zetterberg said. “She has a story that she can tell, so it’s more than just music. And that’s what, we kind of wanted the winter concert series to be a alternative storytelling of sorts. The library is all about stories, and this is just stories through music. We wanted to showcase that for the winter concert series.”

Tickets are $5 and you can get them at library, 103 W. 1st St., Sheridan, in advance or on the day of the performance, Jan 20.
