Volleyball: Weglarz reaches 2,000 assists during Shamrocks’ win

The Westfield volleyball team made some history during its four-set win over Fishers Thursday at The Rock.
The Shamrocks won 25-20, 25-15, 14-25, 25-20. Senior setter Sarah Weglarz reached a milestone by recording her 2,000th career assist. Weglarz had 22 assists during the Thursday match.
Katie Sweet hit 11 kills for Westfield and also made 10 blocks. Ellary Detamore collected 21 digs and Grace Stewart served three aces. Elly Grenda smacked 10 kills, while Logan Mapes handed out 15 assists.
Fishers stats were unavailable at press time.
With the victory, the Shamrocks finished second in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference with a 5-2 record. Westfield is 17-6 overall. The Tigers completed HCC play with a 4-3 record and are 17-7 overall.

Hamilton Heights swept Sheridan in another all-county match Thursday, 25-18, 25-9, 25-13.
Taylor Bates handed out 18 assists for the Blackhawks and also served one ace. Emma Went added 10 kills and five digs, while Allie Delph collected seven digs and hit six kills. Lillie Dickerson had four kills and one ace, while Kaiden Wilson spiked four kills and made three block assists. Jacquellynne Bates made eight digs.

The Huskies improved to 13-6 with the win, while the Blackhawks are 8-16.

Carmel swept Kokomo on Thursday, 25-10, 25-12, 25-15.
Macarty McQueen had 10 kills, four digs and two aces in the match, while Ella Brooks and Savanna Rogers both hit seven kills. Ella Bostic dished out 35 assists to go with five digs and three aces.
The Greyhounds are 17-8 and finish the regular season Saturday by hosting the Carmel Invitational.
