The Carmel volleyball team won an exciting five-set match over Zionsville Wednesday at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
The Greyhounds emerged victorious in a back-and-forth match, 19-25, 25-16, 25-23, 14-25, 15-12. The Eagles continuously challenged Carmel, with both teams exchanging serving runs during the match. But the Greyhounds made one last push in the fifth set to win.
Carmel coach Kristine Deem credited the victory to “working together as a single unit and figuring out our lines of communication, especially in broken plays, and figuring out how to keep our calm, always believing in that fight.”
Four different Greyhound players had at least 12 kills. Gabby Smith and Lexi Brehl both put down 13 kills, while Macarty McQueen and Anne Lesure both hit 12 kills. Lesure and Ella Bostic both handed out 24 assists.
Bostic and McQueen each served three aces, with Brehl hitting one. On defense, McQueen collected 20 digs, Lesure had 12 and Brehl picked up 10. Smith made six blocks, and Lesure had three blocks.
“We have some people stepping into some new roles that weren’t regular for them and they really stepped up,” said Deem.
Carmel is 13-6 and plays Jasper at the Pioneer Varsity Three Way on Saturday.
