High school sweethearts Larry & Margaret Renihan celebrate 70 years of marriage

Larry and Margaret Renihan celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 1 at Cyntheanne Christian Church, 13151 Cyntheanne Road, Fishers.

The couple was married June 3, 1955, and share four children along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

“All of us kids are so blessed, honestly, it was an honor to do this for them,” their daughter Jo Neff said.

The entire Renihan family celebrated the milestone by contributing to the church worship service, where Larry Renihan is the minister. Following the service was a reception in the fellowship hall for family and friends to celebrate the Renihans, with around 150 people in attendance.

Larry is a former coach for the Westfield High School basketball team, and many of his players from the Class of 1973 attended the celebration.

The Renihan couple met in high school and started dating right before their senior year. Larry proposed on their second date and by the third date Margaret said yes. Larry was only 17 at the time, so his mother’s signature was required in order to tie the knot.

Their youngest daughter, Kim Dimmock, reflected on how rare this anniversary milestone truly is.

“Many of our family members have come together to celebrate this truly remarkable occasion, and remarkable it is – 0.1 percent of all marriages make it to 70 years,” Dimmock said. “And there’s no better place to celebrate their love for each other, as well as their love for the Lord than here with their beloved church family.”

After 70 years, the couple remains committed not only to each other, but to their family, faith, and community.
