The Carmel volleyball team split a pair of early-week matches.
On Monday, the Greyhounds swept Pike 25-19, 25-12, 25-12 in an away Metropolitan Conference match. Gabby Smith hit seven kills, served two aces and made one block, while Macarty McQueen had eight digs, six kills and two aces.
Ella Brooks contributed six kills and four digs, Ella Bostic had 16 assists, five aces and three digs, Anne Lesure added 13 assists, five digs and four kills and Maria Zweig collected 15 digs and hit one ace.
On Tuesday, Carmel fell to Cathedral in four sets, 26-24, 2121-25, 25-17, 25-17. McQueen had 13 kills, nine digs and one ace, Kam Kichefski added 11 kills, seven digs and three blocks, Lesure contributed 23 assists, 13 digs and 10 kills, Kelsie Twyner had seven kills and two blocks, Bostic added 26 assists and seven digs and Zweig picked up 25 digs.
Carmel is 19-9 and hosts Bishop Chatard on Thursday.
Hamilton Southeastern went 4-0 to win the Brebeuf Jesuit Invitational on Saturday.
The Royals won their first match over Brownsburg 25-20, 24-26, 15-12. Delaney Garner put down 15 kills, with Grace Hunter spiking six kills. Carly Mills and Abby Weber both had 17 digs.
Southeastern swept Bloomington South 25-11, 25-18. Hunter hit seven kills, with Maddie Cole putting down four kills. Mills picked up another 17 digs, with Kyla Berg getting 12 digs.
The Royals got another sweep, over Bishop Chatard 25-16, 25-14. Weber put down 11 kills, while Garner had six kills. Mills added 13 digs and Jordan Engelmann served two aces.
Finally, Southeastern beat Westfield in the final 25-22, 25-13. Weber had 16 digs, five kills and three aces. Garner hit six kills, and Mills added 14 digs, pushing her past the 1,000 career dig mark.
“Carly is a special player and has been a joy to coach,” said HSE coach Jason Young. “I thought both setters Olivia Phillips and Emily Weber were tremendous today and a big reason for our success.”
The Royals are 18-4 and play at Noblesville Thursday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference match.
