January 1, 1934 – September 21, 2025
Virginia Lee Sipe, 91, Arcadia, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at her home of 62 years. She was born a New Year’s baby in 1934 in a mining camp in Co-Op, Ky., to Stobert and Lessie (Chitwood) McGuffey. Her parents preceded her in death with her biological father dying prior to her birth.
Jennie was a homemaker/caretaker, and as the oldest girl in a family of nine kids, she admitted that she raised kids since she could carry one at the age of 10. She also did sewing for Willert Enterprises for many years. She was a baptized Christian with a very private faith and example to her family. Jennie married Grady Sipe on January 14, 1952. They were married at the Cicero Justice of the Peace for $5, and Grady said that was the best $5 he ever spent. They began their life together with another $3 in their pocket, and they said they ate pretty well on that $3. Together, they enjoyed over 70 years of marriage until Grady’s death in 2022.
Her hobbies were family, reading, cooking, gardening, yardwork, and RV camping. She was a fabulous mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was always a provider of quiet, gentle, and wise direction by word and example. She loved her siblings who all preceded her in death, including Jim McGuffey, Don McGuffey, Tom McGuffey, Phyllis Watters, Ernest McGuffey, Harold McGuffey, Danny Boone, and Steve Boone.
Jennie is survived by her children, Sandra (Bob) Crull, Charlotte (Don) May, Donna (Andy) Perrone, and Kenny (Jane) Sipe. Her grandchildren are Wes Miller, Kelly Crull, Whit (Jenna) Miller, Robbie Crull, Lukas (Alyssa) Sipe, and Sarah (Mitch) Imler. Her great-grandchildren are Bryce Miller, Lydia Miller, and Valerie Sipe. She is also survived by step-grandchildren, Libby (Norm) Ransford, Margaret (Mike) Kotlas, Nick (Jenn) Perrone, Kristine (Jordan) Hendrix, Ross May; and step-great-grandchildren, Michaele Gambrall, Rhys Hendrix, and Remy Perrone.
A private family service will be held at Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Home in Cicero on Monday, September 29, 2025. She will be laid to rest at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arcadia Ballpark, P.O. Box 337, Arcadia, IN 46030.
