Community members, local businesses, volunteers, and softball teams came together at Morse Park on June 6 for the annual Universal Cares Softball Slamfest, raising funds to support the nonprofit organization’s mission of serving individuals and families throughout Indiana.

The family-friendly event featured five teams competing throughout the day, along with food, raffles, and activities for spectators. Participants represented local businesses, community organizations, and supporters of Universal Cares, creating an atmosphere centered on friendly competition and community engagement.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will help Universal Cares continue its hands-on approach to community service, which includes assisting families facing hardships, supporting local nonprofit organizations, organizing volunteer projects, and responding to community needs across Indiana.

“Our Softball Slamfest is about much more than softball,” Universal Cares Program Manager Jill Hinds said. “It’s about bringing people together to make a difference. Every player, volunteer, sponsor, and attendee helped ensure we can continue providing support to individuals and families who need it most.”

Universal Cares expressed appreciation to the many volunteers who assisted with event operations, as well as the White River Township EMT personnel who helped ensure a safe environment throughout the tournament.

The organization also recognized GEMCO, the event’s official T-shirt sponsor, for its support in helping create a memorable experience for participants and attendees.

In addition to the softball tournament, attendees had opportunities to win raffle prizes donated by local organizations and businesses, further contributing to the fundraising efforts.

Founded on the belief that communities are strongest when neighbors help neighbors, Universal Cares actively supports communities throughout Indiana by connecting individuals, businesses, and volunteers through compassionate service projects and charitable initiatives.

Organizers called the event a tremendous success and thanked everyone who participated, sponsored, volunteered, donated, or attended.

Universal Cares will continue its 2026 fundraising efforts with upcoming events, including its annual Golf Outing on August 19 at Brookshire Golf Course in Carmel.
