Unified Track & Field: Tigers place second, advance to regional

NOBLESVILLE – As it is every year, the Unified Track sectional at Noblesville was full of determination, teamwork and sportsmanship.

This year’s sectional took place on Saturday, May 23 at Beaver Stadium and it also featured a first-time winner. Pendleton Heights won its first-ever sectional championship, scoring 143 points.

Fishers placed second with 114 points, followed by Zionsville in third place with 100 points. Those three teams qualified for the Kokomo regional, which takes place this Saturday, May 30.

“It’s always an exciting day,” said Fishers coach Patrick Schooley. “It’s a very stressful days for everybody involved, because it’s a very competitive meet. But it’s just a great opportunity to see everybody get involved and have fun. And the big thing about Unified is that everybody is cheering on for everyone, regardless of what team you’re on, just having a great time.”

The Tigers were led by five section winners. Robert Barrett won Section 1 of the 400 dash, while Aaron Schooley was first in Sectional 6 of that event.

In the long jump, Mika Dundore won Flight 3, with Caleb Milner winning Flight 6. Nolan Kuhn won Flight 6 of the shot put.

“I think everything was fantastic,” said Patrick Schooley. “All students performed very well, I’m very proud of our students and how they performed. It’s just a great day overall.”

Westfield finished fourth, scoring 96 points. The Shamrocks picked up a victory in Section 2 of the Girls 4×100 relay.

Hamilton Heights scored 94 points to place fifth. Wyndham Jung was a winner in Flight 5 of the long jump.

Noblesville and Carmel tied for sixth place, with each team scoring 92 points. The Millers won Section 2 of the Boys 4×100 relay, with Adam Fine placing first in Section 6 of the 100 dash. The Greyhounds had victories from Simran Virdi in Section 2 of the 100 dash and Logan Spaulding in Flight 2of the shot put.

Hamilton Southeastern scored 79 points to place ninth. Gordon Ruddock was second in Section 3 of the 400 dash.

Team scores: Pendleton Heights 143, Fishers 114, Zionsville 100, Westfield 96, Hamilton Heights 94, Noblesville 92, Carmel 92, Mt. Vernon 86, Hamilton Southeastern 79, Brownsburg 69, Pike 58.
