Two shootings, one arrest, zero fatalities in Carmel

At 7:05 a.m. on Sunday, Carmel Police were called to 325 E. 106th Street on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located Mark Cowherd, 36, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released.

Information was obtained about a possible second victim who was located later. The second victim, Tina Naughgle, 39, had a gunshot wound to her leg. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was treated and released.

With assistance from IMPD, the suspect, Rodney Upshaw, 45, Indianapolis, was located and arrested on the following charges:

  • Domestic Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon – Level 5 Felony
  • Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon – Level 5 Felony
  • Attempted Murder (two counts) – Level 1 Felony
  • Carrying a Handgun without a license – A Misdemeanor
  • Burglary: Committed while armed with a deadly weapon – Level 2 Felony
  • Burglary: Dwelling and results in serious bodily injury – Level 1 Felony

The Carmel Police Department was assisted by IMPD and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is ongoing.
