Trailblazers race past Anderson Prep, Seay scores career-high points

Taylor Seay scored a career-high 29 points as University’s girls began defense of the Pioneer Academic Athletic Conference North Division championship with a 75-35 win at Anderson Preparatory Academy.

Leah Norvell had a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds while handing out seven assists as University won its 22nd consecutive PAAC North game.

Seay had 13 first-quarter points as the Trailblazers broke the game open in the last 2:30 of the period. With University leading 15-10, Anyah Turley was fouled while making a three pointer from the top of the key. Turley made the free throw for a 19-10 lead. Turley found Seay for a basket at the 1:56 mark before two Seay free throws gave University a 23-12 lead after the opening period.

Anderson Prep pulled within 25-19 midway through the second quarter before a 15-4 University run before halftime put the game away. Norvell scored off a Mack Feeney assist before the Blazers scored seven points in 44 seconds. Seay got ahead for a layup after a Norvell defensive rebound. Sydney Culp made a three pointer off a Norvell assist before Seay forced a Jets timeout with another layin, this time off a Feeney defensive board. Baskets by Norvell, Feeney and Meg Rohloff closed out the half with a 40-23 Trailblazer advantage.

University held Anderson Prep to just nine third quarter points and three fourth quarter points as the Trailblazers pulled away to a running-clock victory.

Seay had a team-high seven steals and handed out four assists. Gabby Culp had a team-high 15 rebounds.

The Trailblazers are now 3-3 on the season, 1-0 in the PAAC North. Anderson Prep is 7-4 and finishes PAAC North play at 2-1.

University is back in action Saturday afternoon for their third game this week, traveling to Lapel. Tip time for the matinee contest is 12:30 p.m.
