Tigers go 1-1 to finish tournament

Fishers split its two final games at the Donny Everett Classic in Clarksville, Tenn. on Saturday, April 4.

The Tigers dropped their first game of the day to Christian County (Tenn.) 7-3. Fishers trailed 3-0 after two innings.

The Tigers scored their first run in the third inning when Vincent Pecoraro singled in Carter Davis. Christian County responded with two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-1 lead.

Fishers got two more runs in the fourth inning. Owen Lukac scored on a wild pitch, then Drake Carnahan singled Parker Congdon home.

Jerry Jaramillo pitched 2.2 innings, striking out four.

The Tigers held off host Clarksville 12-10 in their second Saturday game. Both teams scored two runs in the first inning; David Pina singled in Ethan Buelt for the first run, then Carter Strole scored on Lukac’s RBI groundout.

Clarksville took a 3-2 lead after two innings, but Fishers grabbed the lead back in the top of the third. Buelt cracked a two-run home run into left field, also sending Pecoraro home. Strole scored on Lukac’s sacrifice fly, then Davis went home on Sean Frey’s sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a 6-3 lead.

Fishers put up three more runs in the fourth inning to go up 9-3. Miles Tebben scored after Strole reached on error, Pina singled in Andrew Baldini, then Strole stole home plate.

The Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the Tigers’ lead to 9-5. Fishers added three runs in the top of the sixth: Frey doubled in Strole and Davis, then Lukac scored on a wild pitch.

With that, the Tigers led 12-5. Clarksville scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth, then neither team scored in the seventh. Fishers took care of the Cougars 1-2-3 in the seventh inning to clinch the victory, with Eli Poisel striking out the last two batters to get the save.

Strole was 3-for-5 at the plate, including two doubles. Pecoraro hit a triple and Frey hit a double. Baldini went 3-for-4. Jackson Spicer got the pitching win.

Fishers is 2-3 and returns home to play Zionsville on Thursday. It will be the Tigers’ first Hoosier Crossroads Conference game of the season.
