Tigers finish Tennessee with 1-1 Saturday

Fishers finished up its Tennessee trip by splitting two Saturday games.
First, the Class 4A No. 1 Tigers beat Mason (Ohio) 11-4. Fishers was in front from the start, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Carson Dunn led off with a single, then scored when Joey Brenczewski reached on error. Jack Brown then batted in Brenczewski.
The Tigers added two more runs in the second inning. Curtis Kearschner scored on Carson Dunn’s RBI groundout, then Brenczewski singled home Zach Cox. Fishers then exploded for seven runs in the third inning. Cox doubled in Gavin Clayton, Brenczewski drew a bases-loaded walk to score Kearschner, then Cox and Huey Dunn got home when Brown reached on error. Finally, Dominic Oliverio wrapped things up with a three-run home run, also getting Brenczewski and Brown home.
Brown, Clayton and Cox all had two hits. Joey Wilmoth pitched four innings for the win, striking out eight.
Fishers dropped a tough one for its second game, falling to Nolensville (Tenn.) in a walkoff, 8-7.
Neither team got on the board until the top of the fourth inning, when the Tigers scored two runs. Cox singled home Preston, then Kaden Gorak’s double brought Cox in to score.
Fishers added two more runs in the fifth inning for a 4-0 lead. Brown’s double scored Brenczewski, then Preston singled home Brown. But Nolensville came back in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs for a 5-4 lead.
Both teams scored three runs in the seventh inning. The Tigers went first, and Brenczewski started the scoring by hitting a triple to get Huey Dunn home.
Brown batted in Brenczewski, then later got home when Clayton reached on error. That gave Fishers a 7-5 lead, but Nolensville won with back-to-back RBI singles.
Brown and Preston were both 3-for-4 at the plate, while Brenczewski had two hits. Gavin Kuzniewski pitched five innings, striking out eight.
Fishers is 3-1 and next plays Wednesday at Zionsville.
