Tigers clinch Mudsock trophy, Millers complete sweep of Rocks, Blazers get Estep’s 200th win

The Fishers baseball team clinched the Mudsock trophy on Friday, beating host Hamilton Southeastern 9-3.

The Tigers got on the board in the first inning. Deagan Repp led off with a right field base hit, then Huston Dunn moved him to third base with another right field hit. Jack Brown came up next and singled Repp in to score, then Dunn got home on an error.

Jase Ruggles scored on a passed ball in the second inning, and Fishers led 3-0. The Royals scored their first run in the third inning when Evan Haas got home after Kam Seitz reached on error.

Southeastern tied the game with two runs in the fifth inning. Drew LaFleur scored on a passed ball, then Haas picked up his second run on a wild pitch.

But Fishers took control in the sixth inning, putting up six runs. Owen Lukac scored the go-ahead run, then Evan Doran was brought in by Trevor Hall’s sacrifice fly. Caulin Brown sent Ruggles home with a center field single. Later, Repp blasted a two-RBI right field hit, scoring Ethan Gardner (running for Brown) and Noah McPeek. Dunn batted in the Tigers’ final run of the game, cracking a right field double to score Repp.

Dunn and Repp both finished with two hits. Gavin Kuzniewski pitched five innings for the win, striking out four and allowing two hits. Ben Hammond pitched the last two innings, with three strikeouts and one hit.

Maddux Bach hit a double for HSE. while Josh Lesniewski threw five and a third innings, tossing five strikeouts.

Fishers is 5-3 in Hoosier Crossroads Conference play and 12-6 overall, while the Royals are 3-5 in the conference and 7-9 overall. The Mudsock series concludes at 6 p.m. this evening at the Tigers’ field; that game will be a non-conference contest.

Noblesville completed an HCC sweep of Westfield Friday, winning 8-4 at Don Dunker Field.

The Shamrocks scored two runs in the first inning. Matt Drozlek hit a solo home run. Logan Hoffman got on base with a double, then was later scored by Nick Fero’s right field hit.

The Millers took the lead in the second inning, scoring four runs. Noblesville loaded the bases, then McCoy Fulk got home when Brady Bishop drew a walk. Joe Glander scored on Trevor Corbett’s sacrifice fly. Jacob Baker batted in the go-ahead runs, smacking a right field double to bring in Sam Deno and Bishop and give the Millers a 4-2 lead.

Westfield got a run back in the third inning when Fero scored after Tyler Gentry drew a bases-loaded walk; Fero hit a double earlier in the inning. Noblesville put up three runs in the fourth inning: Aiden Reynolds doubled Corbett home, Baker’s left field hit brought Reynolds home, and Nolan Decker sent a hit into left field to score Baker.

Corbett hit an RBI single in the fifth inning to score Bishop and put the Millers ahead 8-3. Brayden Hibler hit a solo home run for the Rocks in the sixth inning.

Corbett and Baker both had two hits. Lucas Stephan got the pitching win, with four strikeouts in four and a third innings. Decker threw two and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Drozlek and Fero both had two hits for Westfield.

Noblesville stays perfect in conference play at 6-0 and is 13-3 overall. The Millers host New Castle at 1 p.m. this afternoon. The Shamrocks are 4-4 in the conference and 9-7 overall. They play Monday at Pendleton Heights.

University sailed to an 18-2 Pioneer Conference North win over Seton Catholic Friday at RoundTripper Academy.

The Trailblazers scored one run in the first inning: Ryan Castetter got on base with a double, then was sent home by Cooper Burnett’s center field single.

The Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the first inning, but University dominated the second inning, putting up 17 runs to clinch coach Chris Estep’s 200th victory. That included a three-run triple from Owen Schellhase. Caldwell hit a two-RBI double early in the inning, then smacked another RBI double later. Jasper Owens and Burnett also had RBI doubles.

Ja’Rell Smith hit a fourth-inning triple. Schellhase finished with four RBIs. Hunter Canning and Max Westerkamm combined for a no-hitter, with Canning striking out seven in three innings. and Westerkamm striking out four in two innings.

University is 2-0 in division play and 8-5-1 overall. The Blazers host Bishop Luers today for a doubleheader.

Hamilton Heights cruised past Northwestern 11-1 Thursday in a Hoosier Conference East game.

The Huskies scored all 11 of their runs in the sixth inning, including a two-run home run by Dean Mason. Logan Hickman had two hits. Dillon Pitts threw five innings, striking out seven against three hits.

Heights is 4-1 in the division and 7-6 overall. The Huskies were to play Carmel on Friday, but the game was canceled. Heights hosts Daleville at noon today.

Sheridan dropped an 8-6 Hoosier Heartland Conference game at Clinton Central Friday.

The Bulldogs led 2-0 after five innings. The Blackhawks scored in the sixth inning when Chance Spencer got home after Dayne Voege reached on error.

Clinton Central put up six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Sheridan nearly came back by scoring five runs in the seventh. Zach Bales scored after Keegan Stout drew a bases-loaded walk, then Austin Hinshaw got home on a Brayden Whisman walk. Caleb Alexander singled Braelan Bochner home, Voege batted Stout in, then Whisman scored on a Cole Mackintosh walk before the Bulldogs got the third out.

Voege had two hits. Bales threw six strikeouts in four innings.

Sheridan is 2-2 in HHC play and 7-5 overall. The Hawks play this morning at Elwood.
