This week, Farmersburg feels Blackhawks’ wrath
The Sheridan football team pitched another shutout on Friday.
The Blackhawks traveled to North Central Farmersburg, south of Terre Haute, and kept their win streak going by sailing past the Thunderbirds 42-0. It’s the third week in a row that Sheridan has not allowed an opponent any points, and the fourth shutout this season.
The last time the Blackhawks had four shutouts during a season was in 2007. Sheridan had five shutouts during that campaign, one that finished 15-0 with a state championship.
The Blackhawks scored six touchdowns, all by run. Eli Kolb (23 yards) and Peyton Cross (five yards) scored in the first quarter to give Sheridan a 14-0 lead, then three more put the ‘Hawks up 35-0 at halftime. Cross took off on a 44-yard run, Zach Bales punched one in from the one-yard line, and Keegan Hampton took an interception return 44 yards to score.
Cross finished the scoring in the third quarter by making another 44-yard touchdown sprint. Owen Bell went 5-of-5 for extra points, with Caleb Alexander kicking the extra point after Hampton’s score.
Sheridan coach Bud Wright said his team “started out a little slow, but then we picked it up” and took care of business from there.
The ‘Hawks are 6-1 and return home next Friday to play Eastern in a crucial Hoosier Heartland Conference game.
“They’re 5-2 and we’re 6-1, so it should be a pretty good ball game,” said Wright.
