Editor’s note: The Sheridan Student Column is brought to readers by Sheridan High School’s Accelerated English 9 class, taught by Ellie Arrowood.

Do you like the outdoors? In the Sheridan High School Wilderness Club, you can explore nature in many ways. You get to learn about and experience many unique things in the world around you and connect with others in the great outdoors!

The Sheridan High School Wilderness Club meets every Tuesday with its awesome leader, Trey Clayton (Chippy), to do fun activities and learn all kinds of new skills. Some of these activities can include team challenges, games, and lessons on different survival skills. A fun activity we do is identify different leaves. We also take occasional day trips on Saturdays. On these trips, we experience the beauty of Indiana’s state parks. We also get to participate in activities like canoeing, hiking, fishing, and caving. While hiking, we learn about the trees and plants in that state park.

Wilderness Club will also sometimes take backpacking trips over the summer. This offers time to connect and build friendships with others and nature! On these trips, we get to hike and camp out in the wilderness. This gives us a chance to make lasting memories and have fun with those around us. In the end, there are so many amazing opportunities found within this club.

If you love the outdoors and adventure, you should consider joining your local Wilderness Club! There are so many fun activities to experience and explore while also creating long-lasting friendships and memories. The Wilderness Club is also a great way to spend your time after school! Adventure, friendship, and the great outdoors are waiting for you right after school. But if you go to Sheridan High School, you can join Trey and the rest of the Wilderness Club and start making memories that will last far beyond high school.
