When asked by Esther Lakes to serve as Honorary Chair of Spotlight on Art, which takes place on Thursday, Nov. 9 at Hotel Carmichael, I immediately said yes!

I know Esther is dedicated to the care of the children in our community and her belief in the importance of each child. Spotlight on Art has been her vision and dream for several years. This event is a reality because of her hard work with a devoted committee of community supporters.

The purpose of this event is to better serve families and care for our children so that they can reach their potential. This event raises funds through the sale of art to support organizations that care for our children. Ideally, we would like it if our children were never harmed or placed in painful situations. As much as we try, sometimes these situations, including life’s challenges and obstacles, do occur. We want our children to be known for how they overcame their situations and not be defined or limited by them.

We may never know how our efforts to help our children today will affect children not yet born. As a Judge my hope has always been that each child develops a spirit of self-reliance and understanding of their individual purpose. We must help instill in them the personal belief that if they work hard and never give up, they can accomplish anything.

This is why supporting this event which benefits Prevail, Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville, and Children’s TherAplay is crucial. These organizations have proven their commitment and ability to provide our children and their families with the tools to overcome difficult situations. They work nonstop until each child has the possibility of reaching their highest potential. Therefore, we must join to support this event, as a caring community, that is watchful of our children.

I have always believed in the greatness and ingenuity of the people of Hamilton County. We have come together to provide answers for the needs of our citizens and to set a better course. Consider joining us at Spotlight on Art benefiting children.
