The Hamilton Southeastern volleyball team has moved up to No. 1 in the Class 4A rankings, and have been playing like it, winning its last three matches easily.
Last Saturday, the Royals picked up two wins at the North vs. South Showdown at Providence. First, Southeastern beat Floyd Central 25-14, 25-18, 25-19. Lauren Harden paced the offense with 14 kills, followed by Avery Hobson with 13 on the outside and Lindsey Mangelson with seven. Bre Goss added six kills in the middle. Macy Hinshaw handed out 28 assists, with Ava Hunter dishing out 12. Sophie Ledbetter picked up 14 digs, with Kaylyn Christy making 10 digs.
In their second match, the Royals took care of host Providence 25-23, 25-12, 25-21. Hobson again dominated the outside with 17 kills, while Mangelson put down nine. Hinshaw dished out 10 assists. Ledbetter collected 12 digs with Christy making eight.
On Tuesday, Southeastern was back on the road, playing at Brebeuf Jesuit. The result was another straight-set win, 25-14, 25-21, 25-12.
Hobson had another strong night with 15 kills, followed by Harden with nine. Tiffany Snook put down eight kills in the middle, with Mangelson hitting seven. Madi Evett hit two kills and made several big blocks.
Hinshaw handed out 21 assists and Hunter dished out 11. Ledbetter made 15 digs and Christy picked up 10 digs.
The Royals are 7-1 and host Avon in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference match tonight.
Noblesville swept past Lawrence North 25-13, 25-23, 29-27 in a Wednesday match at The Mill.
The Millers are 8-1 and play an HCC match tonight at Fishers.
Carmel also got a Wednesday sweep, beating Lawrence Central 25-7, 25-9, 25-9 in an away match.
The Greyhounds are 4-5 and play at the Avon Invitational on Saturday.
Sheridan dropped two hard-fought matches this week.
First, the Blackhawks fell at Herron 25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 25-17. Senne IJzer hit seven kills for the Blackhawks, while Lexi Lewin, Emma Settles, Claudia Headlee and Nova Cross all put down three kills. Cross, Payton Warren and Jacquellynne Bates all served three aces, with Meredith Krupp hitting two aces.
On defense, Bates collected 24 digs, with Warren getting 12 and Krupp making nine digs. IJzer had one solo block, with Headlee and Cross both getting two block assists. Cross handed out 12 assists.
Sheridan dropped a five-set match to Traders Point Christian Academy on Wednesday, 25-12, 24-26, 22-25, 25-23, 15-8. IJzer had 16 kills, with Shelby Eaton and Headlee both hitting six kills. Bates served four aces, followed by Krupp with three and IJzer with two. Cross dished out 27 assists.
Bates led the digs with 21, while Warren and IJzer both got 12 and Krupp collected 10 digs. Cross made three solo blocks, with Eaton and Headlee both making one block.
The Blackhawks are 1-6 and play tonight at Eastern.
