Hamilton Heights will finish seventh in the Hoosier Conference, after winning its placement game at Lafayette Central Catholic Friday night.
The Huskies defeated the Knights 37-24. The teams went back and forth in the first half, with LCC leading 17-14 late in the second quarter. But Heights surged ahead to a 24-17 halftime lead after Owen Powell kicked a 34-yard field goal, then Tad DeFoe caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Andis with 10 seconds left to go in the half.
Earlier in the quarter, Andis threw two more touchdown passes: One in the first quarter to Michael Cross, and another in the second quarter to Brandon Garst. Cross struck again in the fourth period, this time catching a 45-yard score from Carter Compassi.
Central Catholic answered a minute and a half later with a touchdown, but Heights’ Noah Souder put the game out of reach by taking a 28-yard interception return into the end zone wtih 2:46 left.
Andis had an outstanding game, completing 17 of 25 passes for 237 yards. Comppass also made his throws count, going 3-for-5 with 62 yards. Blake Webel did his part on the ground, gaining 104 yards in 22 carries.
With the win, Heights finishes its regular season 2-7. The Huskies will travel to North Montgomery next Friday for the first round of Class 3A Sectional 26.
