On Saturday, March 28, the Westfield High School’s Service Over Self (SOS) Club and the Westfield Lions Club held their annual pancake breakfast with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the “Miracle League of Westfield” – a local non-profit organization that provides children and adults with disabilities the experience of playing “adaptive baseball.”

This is the fourth straight year the SOS Club has selected the Miracle League as the recipient of the breakfast’s proceeds, and this year resulted in a donation of $2,100 to help fund the organization.

Each year, the SOS Club members are responsible for planning and promoting the event, making pancakes, serving the customers, cleaning up the cafeteria, and selling the 50/50 raffle tickets. The Lions’ role is to make sure the students have everything they need to keep the event running smoothly.

A major reason the pancake breakfast continues to be a big success is because of the support and assistance the SOS Club receives from the Westfield High School cafeteria staff. Each year, Cafeteria Operations Manager Paul Sherrer and his employees take time out of their Saturday mornings to assist the students and Lions with anything they need during the breakfast. Without their help the breakfast would not be nearly as successful.

Court Commissioner Christopher Barrows, candidate for the new Hamilton County Superior Court 9, along with other local leaders, helped to sponsor the event.

“The WHS Service Over Self Club is such an inspiring group of kids,” Barrows said. “I am proud and humbled to help them contribute to a great organization like The Miracle League, even a little bit.”

About the Miracle League of Westfield
The Miracle League of Westfield is run by a 100-percent volunteer committee and has developed an accessible stadium at Westfield’s Roundtripper Academy. Their mission is to provide opportunities for all children and young adults to play baseball regardless of their ability or disability. The Miracle League of Westfield needs financial support to make the dream of playing baseball come true for these kids and adults, so the SOS Club and Westfield Lions are stepping up to raise funds and create awareness for this extremely worthwhile program.
