Softball roundup: Fowler breaks record in Millers’ shutout of Greenfield Central, Rocks get the best of Franklin Central

Gabby Fowler made history for the Noblesville softball team Thursday during the Millers’ 15-0 win over Greenfield-Central.

Fowler hit two runs during the game, breaking the career Noblesville home-run record. Fowler hit a solo home run during the second inning, then nailed a grand slam in the third inning.

The Millers started with five runs in the first inning, including two-run singles from Bella Hughes and Makayla Jacquay. Macie Duvall hit an RBI double in the fifth inning.

Fowler went 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in six runs. Hughes and Nevaeh Nash each had two hits, while Mack Harvey smacked a double. Lulu Van Beek pitched three innings for the win.

The Millers are 3-1 and are off for Spring Break, returning to action April 9 at Fishers.

Westfield won a back-and-forth battle with Franklin Central on Thursday, beating the Flashes 7-6 to open Hoosier Crossroads Conference play.

Franklin Central scored two runs in the top of the first inning, then added two runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Shamrocks got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with three innings. Grace Fanelli doubled in Reese Mahannah, Cara Snedeker’s center field hit brought in Fanelli and Grace Feltz smacked a double to score Snedeker.

Westfield took the lead in the fourth inning with two runs. Fanelli again batted in Mahannah to tie the game, while Addison Greenwalt scored after Snedeker’s sacrifice fly to put the ‘Rocks up 5-4.

The Flashes scored two runs in the top of the sixth to jump ahead 6-5. Westfield got the lead back for good with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Annika Lawrence got home on Sofia Easterhaus’ sacrifice fly, then Feltz scored on a wild pitch.

Ava Kainrath also hit a double; she, Feltz and Fanelli all had two hits. Chloe Tanner pitched three and a third innings, striking out four and allowing one hit. Shea Vohs struck out two over three and two-thirds innings.

The Shamrocks are still unbeaten at 5-0. Westfield is off for Spring Break, returning to action April 9 at Brownsburg for another HCC game.
