Soccer sectionals: Several county teams reach finals

The Noblesville and Fishers girls soccer teams advanced to the championship match at the Class 3A Sectional 8 at Hamilton Southeastern Thursday after easy semi-final wins.
The No. 1-ranked Millers sailed past Pendleton Heights 7-0 in the first semi-final. Noblesville led 3-0 at halftime. Ava Bramblett and Isabella Griffey scored the first two goals, both off assists by Carlie Sack. Paige Smucker put in the third goal.
Smucker added the fourth goal just three minutes into the second half, with Eva Montgomery making the assist. Montgomery scored two minutes later, getting her first varsity goal. Meskerem James scored the sixth goal, then Melanie Obuch completed the scoring with her first varsity goal. Stella Scroggin assisted that one.
In the second semi-final, the No. 20-ranked Tigers beat Anderson 12-0. Aubrey Robertson scored three goals, while Taylor Hamilton added two goals.
Seven other players scored one goal: Sami Bird, Ava Disborough, Maddie Tidwell, Maeve Hanley, Grace Preston, Emmy Streeter and Mallory Slabaugh. Five players made one assist: Lilly Touhey, Taylor Stone, Sienna Mullen, Disborough and Hamilton.
Noblesville is 15-0-1 for the season and Fishers is 7-7-3. The Millers and the Tigers will play at 2 p.m. Saturday for the Sectional 8 title.

Hamilton Heights reached the championship game at its own sectional Thursday with a 3-0 win over Yorktown.
Kyndall Ferguson scored two goals for the Class 2A No. 15 Huskies, with Emma Hall adding one goal. Cassidy Felger made two assists.
Heights is 15-3 for the season and will face Jay County at 7 p.m. Saturday for the Sectional 24 title. The Patriots beat Delta 5-4 in the other Thursday semi-final.

University’s girls team lost a tough semi-final game at the Class 1A Sectional 43 at Triton Central on Thursday, as the Trailblazers fell to Scecina in penalty kicks, 4-3.
University finished its season with a 5-8-1 record.

BOYS GAMES
Carmel completed a 3A Sectional 10 semi-final victory at Westfield on Thursday, beating Pike 3-1.
The game was resumed at the beginning of the second half with the No. 10-ranked Greyhounds up 2-0. The Red Devils cut the lead to 2-1, but Will Morgan scored a late goal for Carmel to ensure its victory. Josiah Shepson made the assist.
“It was crazy,” said ‘Hounds coach Shane Schmidt. The coach said that in 24 years of coaching, he didn’t remember ever “having that long of a halftime,” which he calculated to be around 20 hours.
“I was glad the boys came back out and they were focused and they were ready to go,” said Schmidt. “Pike is a good opponent as well as a conference opponent. We just played them two weeks ago towards the end of the season. They gave us a heck of a game and I’m proud of our guys for surviving and moving on.”
Carmel is 12-3-2 and will play No. 7 Zionsville at 2 p.m. Saturday for the Sectional 10 title.

Sectional 26 host Guerin Catholic, the No. 3-ranked team in 2A, held off a tough Cardinal Ritter team 2-1 on Thursday to advance to the sectional championship game.
The score was 1-1 at halftime. Jack Demmings scored for the Golden Eagles, then the Raiders got their goal on a penalty kick. Guerin Catholic got the go-ahead goal with 15:04 left in the second half when Keegan Perhacs scored.
The Golden Eagles are 9-4 and will play Brebeuf Jesuit at 2 p.m. Saturday for the sectional title.

University, the No. 2-ranked team in 1A, fell to 1A No. 1 and Sectional 40 host Park Tudor 1-0 in a Thursday semi-final game.
The Trailblazers finished their season 12-3-2.
