Soccer regionals: Noblesville girls, Fishers boys, both Guerin Catholic teams win championships

The Noblesville girls soccer team defended its regional championship on Saturday at Logansport.
The Class 3A No. 1 Millers held off Homestead 2-1 in the semi-finals. The Spartans scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute, but Noblesville got the goal right back one minute later. Makenna Maloy found the back of the net, with Isabella Griffey making the assist. Kate Bettner scored the go-ahead goal – her first-ever varsity goal – with under seven minutes left to play.
The Millers had an easier time in the championship game, beating Fort Wayne Carroll 4-0. Meskerem James got Noblesville on the board with a goal in the ninth minute. Ava Bramblett scored late in the first half, putting the Millers up 2-0 at halftime. Jenna Chatterton got the third goal in the game’s 50th minute, then Paige Stooksberry completed the scoring midway through the second half, with Elana Chatterton making the assist.
Noblesville is 15-0-1 for the season. The Millers will travel to South Bend St. Joseph next Saturday, where they will play St. Joseph at 1 p.m. for the 3A north semi-state championship.

The Fishers boys team will join Noblesville at St. Joseph next weekend, this after the Tigers won the Kokomo regional on Saturday. It’s the first-ever regional championship for Fishers in boys soccer.
The Tigers defeated Homestead 4-0 in its semi-final game, scoring two goals in each half. Sophomore Keiji Nakamae put in three of those goals, with Rodrigo Dominguez scoring one goal and assisting one of Nakamae’s goals. Ian Bowron and Kevin Natzel also had one assist.
In the championship game, Fishers beat Fort Wayne Carroll 2-1. Nakamae scored one of the goals, then assisted Angel Roque with his goal.
The Tigers improved to 12-6-1 with the victory. They will play Chesterton at 11 a.m. next Saturday at South Bend St. Joseph for the 3A north semi-state title.

Guerin Catholic got a regional sweep on Saturday, as both the Golden Eagles girls and boys teams won championships.
The Guerin boys triumphed at the Class 2A Greensburg regional. The Golden Eagles beat Bishop Chatard 3-0 in the semi-final; Lukas Pinion scored two goals and Keegan Perhacs had one goal.
In the final, GC defeated Tri-West 4-0. Pinion again scored two goals, with Evan Miller and Ethan Cabotage both adding one goal.
Guerin Catholic’s girls team won at the East Central regional. In the semi-final, the Golden Eagles defeated Brownsburg 5-0. Evelyn Bestard scored two goals for Guerin, with Emersen Jennings, Katie Koger and Quincy McMahon all scoring one.
The Golden Eagles had to come from behind to win the championship game, which they did in overtime, 3-2 against Mount Vernon. The Marauders led 2-0, scoring one goal in each half, with under 10 minutes left to play.
McMahon then scored two goals in the final six minutes to send the game into extra time, which consists of two seven-minute periods. Bestard scored to put Guerin Catholic in the lead during the first overtime period, and the Golden Eagles held on from there.
Both teams will play at Seymour next Saturday in the semi-state. The Golden Eagles girls, now 15-1-2, will play Columbus North for the 3A south semi-state title at 1 p.m., then the Guerin Catholic boys, now 14-1-2, will play Evansville Memorial for the 2A south semi-state championship at 3 p.m.

Westfield’s boys team lost a tough semi-final game to Franklin Central 2-1 Saturday at Carmel’s Murray Stadium.
All of the goals were scored in the second half. The Flashes got the first goal three minutes into the half, but the Shamrocks answered with 29 minutes left. Ellis Douthit put the ball in the net, assisted by David Green. The score would stay 1-1 until the final minute, when Franklin Central scored with 45 seconds left.
Westfield finished its season with a 10-4-2 record.
