Cross country regionals: Six boys, five girls teams advance to semi-state

Hamilton County cross country teams had another strong regional performance on Saturday, with six boys teams and five girls teams advancing to next Saturday’s semi-state level.
At Noblesville’s Chanquapin Ridge course, the Carmel girls team cruised to victory, winning their 32nd regional championship in program history. The Greyhounds scored 44 points, well ahead of runner-up North Central’s 85.
Annie Christie was the individual winner, cruising to victory in 17 minutes, 44 seconds. She was one of two Carmel runners in the top 10. Cara Naas was the other one, placing seventh.
After the Panthers, Pike finished third, followed by Noblesville in fourth and Westfield in fifth. Those teams will join Carmel at the Shelbyville semi-state next Saturday.
The Millers scored 114 points, with freshman Summer Rempe placing 10th. Noblesville’s top three runners were all freshmen. The Shamrocks scored 123 points, with Sophie Porter taking 22nd to lead the way.
Two more girls runners will advance as individuals. Guerin Catholic’s Bridget Gallagher finished in sixth and Hamilton Heights’ Maria Mitchell placed eighth.
In the boys race, Brebeuf Jesuit won a tight three-way competition for the team championship. The Braves scored 41 points, edging out runner-up Carmel’s 46 and third-place Noblesville’s 59.
The Greyhounds also had the boys individual winner, with Kole Mathison clocking in at 15:12.2. Charlie Schuman finished in fourth place and Jacob Fisher was seventh.
The Millers’ Travis Hickner was the individual runner-up, in a time of 15:24.7. Cole Kimmel also finished 10th for Noblesville.
Westfield finished fourth and Guerin Catholic placed fifth, so both teams will join the top three at the semi-state next weekend. The Shamrocks scored 109 points, with Kai Connor leading the way by placing sixth individually. The Golden Eagles totaled 121 points; Austin Callahn finished 14th.

Hamilton Southeastern and Fishers both took care of business at the Delta regional on Saturday, qualifying both their girls and boys teams for next Saturday’s New Haven semi-state at Huntington University.
The Royals girls won the team championship by scoring 41 points, with the Tigers getting 52 points for second place. Both teams landed three runners in the top 10.
Halle Hill placed second for Southeastern, followed by Grace Newton in fifth and Lilly Patrick in eighth. Fishers got a 3-4 finish from Anna Runion and Elizabeth Barrett, while Vera Schafer placed seventh.
The Tigers dominated the boys race, taking five of the top eight spots on their way to the team championship. Fishers scored 26 points, while the Royals totaled 58.
Will Clark and Matthew Leppert finished second and third respectively for Fishers. The Tigers then got a 6-7-8 finish from Jonathon Roth, Tate Meaux and Nick Pulos.
Southeastern did have the individual champion, with Bennett Dubois racing home in a time of 16:10. Connor Sarkovics finished in 10th place.

At Delta
