Soccer: Huskies girls hold off UHS, No. 2 HSE boys stun Avon

The Hamilton Heights girls soccer team won an all-county game over University 3-2 on Monday.
The Huskies scored first, with Elaina Page finding the back of the net unassisted 15 minutes into the game. Makena Trew scored the second goal when she sent in a long shot after the Trailblazers tried clearing a corner kick. Page scored again before halftime off of an Emily Stirn assist.
University scored both its goals in the second half. Lily Snyder scored the first early in the half, and the ‘Blazers got the second when Kenzie Allen played a pass to Tessa Hudson, who put it in.
Tessa Harr had 10 saves in goal for the Huskies.

Hamilton Southeastern’s boys team, now No. 2 in Class 3A, ran away from 3A No. 8 Avon in the second half to win a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game 3-0.
After a scoreless first half, Matt Kuster put the Royals ahead 1-0 with 23 minutes left in the game. Darian Ghaffari scored the second goal, with Kuster putting in the third goal. Midfielder immy Maulucci was HSE’s “man of the match,” helping shut down the Avon attack.

Westfield’s boys team clawed its way to a 1-1 tie with 3A No. 4 Zionsville on Tuesday.
The Eagles scored their goal in the first half, but on the final play of the game, the Shamrocks’ Nick Rogers scored the tying goal on a perfectly placed corner kick from Josh Van Dyke.

Hamilton Heights’ boys team tied Anderson 0-0 on Tuesday.
Caleb Grabarz recorded four saves for the Huskies. The player of the game was Josh Thorpe, as he was moved around the field for players who were sick and/or injured.

The Sheridan girls team won again, beating Taylor 3-0 on Tuesday.
Makenna Hammack got the Blackhawks on the board with 20 seconds left in the first half by converting a free-kick goal. Hammack assisted Sheridan’s second-half goals: Jensyn Walker knocked home a cross, and Ashton Wilson sent a perfect pass into the net.
Hammack shared player of the game honors with goalkeeper Nixon Williams, who was quick off of her line to stop any Taylor scoring chances.

The Carmel boys team, ranked No. 18 in 3A, beat Brebeuf Jesuit 3-0 on Tuesday.
Riley Shives scored two goals, both from Ben Godden assists. Jack Muller also scored a goal, with Alex Cline making the assist. Andy Pagan-Marrero recorded the shutout.
“Our all-around effort and performance tonight was fantastic,” said Carmel coach Shane Schmidt. “Our movement off the ball, team shape, and organization lead to terrific transitions from defense into the attack. We will get back to the training facility tomorrow in order to prepare for Canterbury.”

Noblesville’s boys dropped a 3-2 all-county game to Fishers on Tuesday.
John Herron and Alec Vanyo scored the Millers’ goals in the first half, but the Tigers scored twice in the second half. Fishers stats were not available.
