Snow removal efforts underway in Fishers after major snowfall

The scrape of shovels and the roar of snow blowers filled the air Monday morning as residents dug themselves out.

Visiting from California, TD Doan shoveled his brother’s driveway and sidewalk. He said his brother is too old to do it himself.

“Yesterday, there was a lot of snow. I couldn’t do it yesterday,” he said. “Today, no more snow. I’m doing a cleanup. Somebody can walk easy.”

By mid-morning, most of the major roads and a number of residential streets in Fishers had been plowed. Besides clearing their driveways and sidewalks, many residents had to dig out snow that had been pushed into their curbs by the plows.

Fifteen-year-old Tristan Burnworth said he spent about 45 minutes digging out their driveway so his mother could get out. He said this is the most snow he’s ever seen in Fishers.

“The snow got really packed up. I had to use, like, a metal shovel to kind of break it down and get it apart so it would be easier to shovel,” he said.

Like numerous schools in Indiana, Hamilton Southeastern Schools canceled in-person classes. Tristan said his teachers posted assignments on line for students to complete.

Despite the subzero wind chills, some kids and their parents loaded up their sleds and headed to Flat Fork Creek Park, home to a 60-foot sledding hill that is the tallest point in Hamilton County. Deuce Woods and his father, Dallas, spent close to an hour making runs up and down the hill. Deuce said Flat Fork is his favorite place to go sledding.

“It’s just the bumps, there’s whole different ones, it’s straight, you’ve got hills, it’s all different,” he said.
