Co-valedictorians Elijah Kinkead and Michael Cronin addressed their class with words of reminiscing and advice for their future. Kinkead ended his speech by quoting an “oldie but goodie” from their elementary years: the six be’s: “Be respectful, be responsible, be a peacemaker, be your best, be kind, and be safe.”

Cronin encouraged classmates to “cherish little things along the way,” and ended by quoting Shrek with lyrics from “All Star” by Smash Mouth, encouraging graduates to “go play.”

Other graduates speaking at the event included Class President Lexi Woodcock, who gave the welcome, and Class Vice President Shelby Shaw, who led the tassel turning ceremony. Sheridan’s band and choir both performed, setting the mood of hope for the future with their selections.

Graduating seniors selected Colonel Warren Weather as their Alumnus of the Year, and he addressed the class. Colonel Weaver, who was a member of Sheridan’s Class of 1965, served in the United States Air Force flying multiple presidents, and serving on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. During his tenure he led a committee that developed a plan that was used in the aftermath of 9/11.

Colonel Weaver pointed out to the class the advantages of small schools. Specifically, he cited research on the advantages of small schools, including smaller class sizes, greater participation in activities, and the support of a small community, where “everybody knows your name.” He ended by reminding students that their lives were guided by “choice, not chance.”

Principal Rick Davis addressed the class with words of encouragement before presenting them with their diplomas. Retiring superintendent Mary Roberson addressed the group and introduced current superintendent Dr. Dave Mundy, who certified the class as graduates of Sheridan High School.

Following the ceremony, graduates and families gathered on the front lawn for pictures and conversation as students said their final goodbyes to high school.
