The 2022 Sheridan baseball season is here!

Our baseball season is looking pretty solid. I predict that we will have a winning record and go far into sectionals. We have some pretty good players this year who will help contribute to our record. We have been preparing hard to win sectionals in the offseason. We are breaking this culture of being mediocre the past couple of years and trying to win something. We have been trying to change the culture of Sheridan baseball for years, but it takes time.

Baseball is a game that is 90 percent mental. It will knock you down and have you thinking of a way to forget that error you just made and make the next play. Baseball has taught me that no one player can win a game. Each person needs a good team behind him for the team to win.

For the last couple of years, we have been knocked out of the playoffs in the first or second round. Our first game of the season was March 29, and we had been practicing since January to prepare for it. The team lost a lot of seniors last year who were really good. This year we gained a couple of good freshmen who are ready to step up and play to help us win games. Some players on the team need more time to develop and might need a couple of people to step up for them.

This baseball team is trying to do something that no team has done in a long time at Sheridan.

To win baseball games, we need to work as a team and pick each other up, not put each other down. In our games, we need to give each other confidence and not let our teammates get in their own heads. For Sheridan to win baseball games, we need everyone to feel good about what they are doing on the field. The team also needs to become aware that if we get overconfident, we tend to lose our focus on what needs to be done on the field. Doing this will help change the culture of Sheridan baseball. I think we could win a lot of baseball games if we keep our focus on what is important.

The second game of our season is at Clinton Prairie on April 12. This will be a challenge against a conference opponent. The team needs to prove that we can win in big games. I think if we can win those two games against Clinton Prairie, that will give us the confidence to win more tough games in the future. We have a 10-day break in between our games because we have spring break, and that might set us back a little bit.

I want this season to be an electric one and have us win a sectional championship in May. I think the team will have a lot of fun if we get our minds right and win games. If we change the culture of Sheridan baseball, we will have a good season.
