Share, help family rebuild

On Jan. 15, the evening before Martin Luther King Day, a fire that started with a bathroom exhaust fan, destroyed the Flanders’ family home in Anderson.

Thanks to the brave men and women of the Anderson Fire Department, the fire was subdued before it could harm the neighbors’ homes.  Their lives, the neighbors’ lives, even the cat’s life, are all intact due to firefighters and their quick and efficient action.

As the smoke settled, the Flanders felt the mixed emotions of the loss of memories and home and the joy at everyone being safe. The family is completely displaced. The majority of personal possessions are gone. They are working to regain balance and have counted as blessings the facts that there was no loss of life and that they are still a strong family.

Unfortunately, the insurance only covered the house loan, not belongings and items inside or the repairs.

The loss has been greater than they can replace and the family needs $20,000 to repair their home.

They are friends of The Reporter and any support our readers give would be a blessing.

Kyle Morey and Jason Westover have set up a FreeFunder campaign to help the Flanders family and are showing their appreciation for people who contribute by offering their latest children’s book, a humorous story about curiosity, as a gift. Go to https://www.freefunder.com/campaign/flanders-family-fire to contribute.

Every dollar raised will deposit directly into the Flanders’ Fire Fund and be used to rebuild their home.
