Westfield finishes first in three big tournaments over four days

CICERO – A good way to describe the Westfield boys golf team after Monday is “tired, but happy.”
And a little wet, since that day’s Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet at Bear Slide Golf Club was thrown off schedule due to afternoon thunderstorms. But the Shamrocks got through it and were rewarded with the HCC team championship.
Westfield scored 294 to claim the trophy.
Hudson Kutchma finished as the medalist with a score of 69. Kutchma was one of four Westfield players that earned a place on the All-HCC team. The others were Ryan Cesare (73), Mitchell Keene (74) and Jude Kaufman (78).
“Our seniors really stepped up today,” said Rocks coach Josh Bryant. The coach credited his team with handling the weather delay, which kept them on the course until after 7 p.m. after Westfield started its round at 11:45 a.m.
“Huson had a great day and then he came back out after a rain delay and made a couple birdies,” said Bryant. “Pretty proud of those guys.”
Noblesville placed second as a team, scoring 301. Tyler Marucci was the individual runner-up, carding a score of 70 for All-HCC honors. Three more Millers made the all-conference team: Jackson Mahan (75), Dustin Turpin (78) and Zane Corley (78).
Hamilton Southeastern finished third, totaling 304. Mattingly Upchurch paced the Royals with his score of 73 and was joined on the All-HCC team by Dane Starnes (76), Ben Miller (77) and Zach Kinzer (78).
Fishers scored 311. Evan Back scored 74 and Cam Young carded 78; both were named to the All-HCC team.
The Shamrocks’ victory was their third major championship for the Rocks in four days. Westfield claimed the Hamilton County meet Friday, May 15 at Pebble Brook Golf Course to start its streak.
The Rocks sent a team to the Franklin Invitational at The Legends in Franklin on Saturday, May 16 and won first place there. Westfield held off Carmel 295-296 to claim the Franklin Invitational. Cesare and Hudson Kutchma both scored 73s. Ben Wilson led the Greyhounds with 72.
Six under 300
The Rocks put together an incredible round at Pebble Brook, where the top six teams all scored under 300. Westfield finished the day with a one under par 279. Ryan Cesare scored 68 (two under par), while Keaton Knott carded a one under 69, making an eagle on the 18th hole.

Cesare tied with Guerin Catholic’s Eli Wessel for first place, as Wessel also totaled 68. That led to a playoff for individual medalist, which Wessel won.
Knott tied for third place individually, while Brayden Worthington’s even par 70 tied him for fifth.
The Golden Eagles finished second as a team with 284. Brady Wagner was part of the fifth-place tie with his score of 70.
Carmel placed third with 291, followed by Hamilton Southeastern (292) and Noblesville (294). The Greyhounds’ Noah Johnson scored 69 to tie for third and Preston Roberts’ 70 placed him in the fifth-place tie.
Noblesville’s Tyler Marucci also joined the fifth-place tie with his 70. The Royals’ Mattingly Upchurch scored 71 to tie for ninth. Fishers’ Tommy Klinker also totaled 71 and is part of the ninth-place tie. The Tigers scored 305 as a team.
Hamilton Heights scored 322. Kole Kirtley led the Huskies with 76.
Heights traveled to Dykeman Park Golf Course on Saturday, May 16 for the Hoosier Conference meet.
The Huskies scored 335 as a team. Kirtley carded a 74 and was named to the All-Conference team. Drew Woodruff totaled 84 and Bruce Hutcherson scored 85.
