Dear Editor:
Carmel’s progressive elite has had a hectic end-of-year rush.
As the old order departs, those left behind face a series of audits and accountings promised both by the new mayor and most of the newly elected city councilors.
In quick succession, the elites:
- Sought a corporate naming sponsor for the financially decrepit Center for the Performing Arts;
- Raised water and sewer rates 35 percent and 20 percent, respectively, to pay for expansion to cover the manic construction craze;
- Approved $400,000 for a 75-foot metallic roundabout “sculpture;”
- Discovered three statuettes to expand a trio of musician statuettes at the Palladium from three to six;
- Added nearly $1 million to the city’s $1.5 billion debt, and
- Issued a FY 2022 “annual report” with no standard annual report numbers such as income, expenses, assets, and liabilities.
What a relief it will be to see the manic spenders either leave city hall or at least take their collective foot off the spending accelerator.
It was time for a change.
Bill Shaffer

Indeed it is. Thanks for shining light on some of the shady things these servants do on a regular basis.
