Dear Editor:

Carmel is no longer Hamilton County’s largest city.

The latest population estimates put Fishers ahead at 106,228 while Carmel came in at 105,455.

Carmel retains the dubious distinction of owing more debt: $1.6 billion to $1.4 billion.

Fishers taxpayers will pay more on their debt this year – $154 million to $102 million.

This year Carmel taxpayers will fork over $102 million in debt pay-down while folks in Fishers are on the hook for $154 million.

When it comes to mottos, Fishers wins hands down:

  • Fishers: Smart, Vibrant, Entrepreneurial.
  • Carmel: Built for Big Dreams.

Put another way: Fishers = Pragmatic; Carmel = Dreamy.
