Senior State Swimming Day 2: Sweeney, Daugherty, Fleck claim event wins

The Indiana Swimming 2025 Senior Long Course Championship continued Thursday at Indiana University’s Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.

Hamilton County swimmers picked up three event wins during Thursday’s action. Molly Sweeney claimed the first of two Carmel Swim Club victories by finishing first in the Women’s 200 breaststroke. She finished the race in 2 minutes, 28.92 seconds.

Grace Daugherty got Carmel’s second win by taking the Women’s 200 backstroke in a time of 2:17.48.

Brandon Fleck of Southeastern Swim Club won the Men’s 400 freestyle, placing first in 3:58.16. Carmel otherwise dominated that event, with six swimmers reaching the “A” Final and finishing in positions 2 through 6. Eddy Zhu placed eighth.

Carmel presently leads in the combined team scores with 1,001 points and is also in front on the men’s side with 659 points. Southeastern leads the women’s standings with 404 points.

NOTE: The “C” Finals consist of the first eight 18-and under swimmers that did not qualify for the “A” or “B” Finals, while the “D” Finals consist of the next eight qualifying 15- and 16-year-olds that did not qualify for any of the other Finals. The “D” Finals are considered a non-scoring heat.
